I-Beam Climber
Many of the mechanical engineering classes are theoretical. The I-Beam Climber was an opportunity to turn my learning into practical usage
Project Goal
The goal of this project was to create a machine that will climb a slanted I-Beam. The machine is contained to be made of PLA and to carry a 1 kg mass at a specific distance and position from the I-Beam.
Design/CAD
The overall design, created on Fusion, is a slanted beam that hangs over the edge. The slant allows for the designed tire to have the proper load to gain traction.
The load needed for the tire to gain traction is large, so a two-axis tire is created and used.
The beam undergoes a number of simulations like displacement to make sure then the machine is within the constraints.
