Hive Maze

Art and functionality seem to have a fine line. I wanted to bridge these two concepts into one. I created a meaningful maze.

Project Goal

The goal of this project was to create a maze on the CNC that’s influenced by realism.

Design/CAD

The metal portion is created on Fusion. The base has threaded holes and uses the linear pattern tool to replicate the hexagon pattern of the bee hive.

The design made for the acrylic was created in Adobe Illustrator. The pattern is engraved by raster in acrylic.

Manufacturing

Using CAM on fusion the tools needed were imported along with the speeds and feed rates. The features configured to create the pockets and produce the g-code

The part was CNCed on the HAAS VF2ss with a total of 3-hour machine time with 5 different operations.

Only needed to polish the aluminum and sand/ buff the burn mark in the acrylic from the laser cutter.
